Andrea Geipel

ABOUT ME
What drives me is the question of how we can make complex, often invisible topics visible – through images, spaces, stories, or formats that bring people together. I like the fragmentary, the non-linear. My career path has been zigzag-like – and that is precisely my strength. I combine scientific perspective with artistic expression, practice with theory, intuition with analysis.
I studied sports science in Munich and Giessen – with a broad focus on psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, and social sciences. Later, I earned my doctorate in Science and Technology Studies, researching the influence of YouTube's platform logic on science communication.
As an artist and science communicator, I am intensively involved with migraines, pain, body awareness and chronic illnesses.
In drawings, mixed-media works, installations and participatory formats, I develop visual languages for experiences that can be described medically, but often remain invisible in society.
Beyond artistic practice, I research the impact of art in migraine education, develop educational formats, teach, hold workshops and advise on issues of visual health and science communication.

ART
Another focus of my work is advising museums, cultural institutions and projects in the field of digital and participatory cultural mediation.
I support processes related to digital storytelling, participation and change management, and assist institutions in developing new forms of communication, interaction and community participation.
In doing so, I combine strategic work with content development and a sensitive view of organizational cultures.
