Migraine and pain

In my work on migraine and pain, I explore the body as a space of experience—a site of intensity, vulnerability, and constant negotiation. My art consciously also depicts anger and frustration, because these aspects of illness are often socially suppressed. I see this not as a contradiction to positive perspectives, but as a necessary complement to make experience fully visible.

My starting point is my own experience with chronic migraine. I am less interested in the medical illustration of symptoms than in subjective perception: pressure, flickering, fragmentation, loss of time, withdrawal.

I translate these states into lines, layers, repetitions, and disturbances. Forms break open, condense, or disappear. Color is reduced or deliberately used to make tensions visible.

Many works are created serially and through processes. They document not only pain, but also the attempt to understand it, structure it, or tame it, even if only for a moment.

My artistic practice is thus conceived as an interface between personal experience, artistic research, and social visibility. The aim is to make migraine tangible as a complex neurological disease beyond clichés – and to open spaces for empathy, exchange and dialogue.
