Freigelegt is a sculptural work about migraine as an invisible neurological disorder and about the attempt to make inner pain visible.

The abstract form is reminiscent of a head lying on its side. The surface of the stone is smoothly polished, calm, and closed. An opening has been carved into this apparent wholeness on the upper left side - a void, round and soft, almost organic. It represents the invisible: pain, exhaustion, and inner strain that are not outwardly apparent.

This void is pierced by several metal rods. They disrupt the harmony of the form, creating tension and disturbance. The rods allude to the chaotic, shooting, and uncontrollable quality of migraine pain - the simultaneous sensation of pressure, stagnation, and overstimulation.

The work process is an integral part of the sculpture. The hard striking of the stone, the drilling, grinding, and polishing reflect physical experience, resistance, and exhaustion. Powerful interventions give way to slow, almost meditative movements.

Freigelegt not only addresses pain, but also the ambivalent desire for control: the need to wrest a form from the material – like one's own body – without being able to fully master it.
