Unter Druck (Under pressure)
The migraine hat is crocheted from wire and thread. The material changes across its surface: at the top, the wire and yarn fuse together to form a solid structure. Above the temple, only the wire remains - hard, rigid, and palpable. Towards the bottom, the material dissolves into soft, red threads that hang freely.
The hat is intentionally too small to be worn. Instead, it floats in space, alluding to something invisible yet ever-present.
Migraine is a constant companion. Something sufferers always "carry on their heads." Sometimes soft and barely noticeable, sometimes hard, oppressive, or stabbing. Like a second skin that can't simply be removed.
The production process was physically visceral. Crocheting with wire is strenuous and painful for the hands. This experience is part of the work and reflects the physical dimension of the condition.
